Source Measure Unit, PXI generation and measurement instrument for currents and voltages
Chroma's 52400 series consists of 3U PXI boards with one (two) slots that can accommodate up to two programmable SMU generation and measurement modules. Each SMU is independent and isolated and operates at four quadrants with maximum voltage range reaching 100 V and current range at 4 A Each SMU has its own 6-wire output connection, ±force, ±sensor and ±protections, for maximum measurement accuracy. Each SMU can force voltage or current and measure one or the other with FVMI or FIMV testing. Both forcing and measuring circuits make use of 18-bit digital-to-analog and vice versa converters.
The 52400 series has multiple current and voltage ranges. For example, the 52401-25- 200m model has 7 current forcing/measuring ranges, ranging from 200 mA to 200 nA, and 6 voltage forcing ranges from ±25 V to ±0.5 V. The 52400 series incorporates a patented hardware sequence engine that uses deterministic timing definition to control each SMU. This enables module/board cross synchronization.
